More than 60 persons joined the Luxembourg Institute of Health and its Clinical and Epidemiological Investigation Center (CIEC) and the Luxembourg Centre for Systems Biomedicine (LCSB), University of Luxembourg to celebrate this years’ International Clinical Trials Day with a film projection of AWAKENINGS with Robin Williams and Robert De Niro.
A welcome-drink was served to participants at 18h00 at the cinema Utopolis in Belval. Both LIH and LCSB were present with information booths on their activities and provided answers to the public’s questions around clinical research in Luxembourg, and the ongoing Parkinson’s study. At 18h45 Dr Anna Chioti and Prof Rejko Krüger gave a short introduction, followed by the movie projection.
Each year around 20th May, the International Clinical Trials’ day celebrates James Lind’s first clinical trial in 1747, which allowed him to develop the theory that citrus fruits cured scurvy. Since then, Clinical Research has been proved essential to generate scientific knowledge and develop new treatments, and is also a privileged way to provide patient access to therapeutic innovation.
The CIEC is part of the National Centre for Excellence in Research in Parkinson’s Disease (www.parkinson.lu), a research program established by the Fond National de la Recherche. Along with the Luxembourg Centre for Systems Biomedicine (LCSB) of the University of Luxembourg, the Centre Hospitalier de Luxembourg (CHL) and the Integrated Biobank of Luxembourg (IBBL), we aim to find new ways for an earlier diagnosis and better treatment against Parkinson’s disease. People with and without Parkinson’s disease can take part in this clinical research programme.
