Oncology, in particular the implementation of Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan, is one of the TRIO Presidency priorities and the Czech Republic plans to continue the efforts of French colleagues in this matter.
Today, Europe accounts for a tenth of the world’s population, but a quarter of the world’s cancer cases. EU decided to address this major health threat by adopting Europe's Beating Cancer Plan, which represents a common commitment to leave no stone unturned in the fight against cancer and it has become a key pillar of a strong European Health Union. The Czech Republic intends to take the opportunity of its Presidency of the Council of the European Union to further support joint efforts to reduce the suffering caused by cancer and to discuss the implementation of four key areas of the Cancer Plan.
The special attention will be paid to screening programs in the context of the European Commission's plan to publish the Council Recommendation on cancer screening in the second half of 2022.
