Robert De Niro co-stars as Leonard, the first patient to receive the controversial treatment. The movie tells the true story of British neurologist Oliver Sacks, who, discovered in 1969 beneficial effects of the drug L-Dopa, the goldstandard treatment for Parkinson’s disease. |

Each year around 20th May, the International Clinical Trial’s day celebrates James Lind’s first clinical trial in 1747, which allowed him to develop the theory that citrus fruits cured scurvy. Since then, Clinical Research has been proved essential to generate scientific knowledge and develop new treatments, and is also a privileged way to provide patient access to therapeutic innovation.
The CIEC is part of the National Centre for Excellence in Research in Parkinson’s Disease (www.parkinson.lu), a research program established by the Fond National de la Recherche. Along with the Luxembourg Centre for Systems Biomedicine (LCSB) of the University of Luxembourg, the Centre Hospitalier de Luxembourg (CHL) and the Integrated Biobank of Luxembourg (IBBL), we aim to find new ways for an earlier diagnosis and better treatment against Parkinson’s disease. People with and without Parkinson’s disease can take part in this clinical research programme.
